The Otago Rail Trail

Catherine Starting off in the Mist
Towards the end of our South Island sojourn we did this trip over four days.  Catherine, who is not a regular cyclist, was apprehensive but she did well.  Her training paid off. We started off from Clyde on a cold foggy morning and ended up with a cold southerly and strong cross wind but had good weather throughout the middle of the trip.  My worst moment was walking into a rock lining one of the tunnels - despite walking and using a torch. It was the glare of the tunnel exit ahead that got me.

Karearea - NZ Falcon

One of the highlights of the trip for me was sighting  NZ Bush Falcons at the start of the Poolburn Gorge.  One let me get close enough to take a reasonable photo. Other highlights were the warm pub (arrived at in the southerly) at Hyde and visiting Dave and Jane Whittaker, friends at Naseby.  Fancy living in yet another paradise!
